Lakeside is the ideal base for guests wishing to take some of our guided tours to experience the sights and sounds of rural India by day, returning to the peaceful serenity and comfort of Lakeside for the evening. City life and spectacular temples are within easy reach, providing a tantalising taste of the wealth of different cultural experiences available in southern India.


jan 2013 084Local village and rural crafts Rs 1,000 per person See the weaving of a beautiful sari; visit the workshop of the local potter; find out what goes on in a local coir factory; visit the local village market and school; drive through the local countryside to see local agriculture at work. For those new to southern India this is a trip not to be missed.

Madurai Rs 1,500 per person Visit the magnificent Meenakshi Temple, The Gandhi Museum and Tirumalaynaiyak Palace. Shop for souvenirs in the lively markets surrounding the Temple or in one of the Government shops. There is plenty to do and see on a day out to Madurai.

Dindigul Rs 1,000 per person Visit our local provincial town of Dindigul to see real life for many Indian people today. Visit the fish market, flower market, green grocers, grocery store and new café. Also take time out to do a little shopping.

Kodaikanal Rs 2,000 per person Enjoy the cooler air at Kodaikanal. Take a trip in a boat on the lake, explore the surroundings on horseback, take in a game of golf or take one of the many hill walks in the area. A complete contrast to the environment at Lakeside and not to be missed.

Thekkady Rs 2,000 per person Just over the border into Kerala it is possible to visit a tea plantation and spice garden as well as take 31an elephant ride (cost of ride not included)

Karaikudi Rs 2,000 per person Visit the famous Chettinad region with its unique architecture. Have lunch in Karraikudi before browsing the antique shops in the area.
